Coughing

Coughing is a defence mechanism to remove bacteria which may cause infection in the body. Coughing is not normally a disease in itself, but more so a symptom of one. The importance of the cough can only be fully determined, once any other symptoms have been examined.

There are two basic types of cough:
1. A chesty cough where mucus is produced. If the mucus is a green/yellow colour, it is indicative of infection

2. A dry cough, often characterized by wheezing, is normally due to an irritant such as dust.

There are many overthecounter preparations available for coughs. Talk to your pharmacist today, for the best treatment advice.
