Conjunctivitis

The conjunctiva is a clear lining inside of the eye lid, covering the white area of the eye. When this lining is inflamed, it is called conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis can be caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Irritants such as chlorine may also lead to conjunctivitis.

The symptoms include:
Red eyes with more tears
Thick yellow crusts over the eyelashes
Itchy, burning eyes
Blurred vision with greater light sensitivity

To relieve symptoms:
Protect your eyes from dirt and other irritating substances.
Avoid the use of makeup.
Remove contact lenses
"Artificial tear drops" may help relieve itching and burning

Infective conjunctivitis is highly contagious however, maintaining proper hygiene should minimize transmission. Talk to your pharmacist for more advice on conjunctivitis.
