Laryngitis

Laryngitis is the inflammation of the larynx, often called the voice box. It can be caused by:
An infection of the upper airways caused by a virus
Acids from the stomach can irritate and inflame the larynx
Exposures to allergens or irritants
Strain or overuse of voice

Laryngitis typically lasts approximately 2 weeks and has the following symptoms:
Hoarse, weak, raspy, or breathy voice
Sore throat
Takes more effort for you to speak
You also may cough or feel an urge to clear your throat

The symptoms are usually temporary unless there is another underlying problem. If your symptoms also include severe pain, difficulty swallowing, coughing up blood, or a noticeable lump in your neck, you should see a doctor right away.
